To the Honorable United Kingdom Parliamentarians,
We would like to express our deep appreciation to the House of Commons for issuing an early motion expressing grave concern with Israel’s possible decision to renew the country’s discriminatory citizenship and family reunification law. The law denies Israeli citizenship and residency status to the spouses of Arab Israeli citizens, who constitute 19% of the Israeli population within Israel’s internationally recognized 1967 borders. The law also violates the rights of Arab Palestinians living in occupied Jerusalem. Practically speaking, the law will harm some 21,000 families and is a blatant violation of human rights and international law.
We reiterate our support for your initiative, and we look forward to future cooperation based on the principles of justice and peace. |
