Journalist files complaint with Public Prosecutor against Hisham Talaat Mustafa and the security director of Rehab after he was beaten and cursed

Journalist Mohammed Abd al-Hamid, with al-Tariq, filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor the day before yesterday against Hisham Talaat Mustafa, CEO of Alexandria Developments; Mahmoud Serag, the company’s site director in Rehab city; and Gen. Ibrahim Ibrahim, the director of security for the company, as well several company workers and engineers, accusing them of cursing and slandering him and threatening to file false theft charges against him while he was doing his job near company worker housing in New Cairo. He has asked for an investigation into the incident.

According to the journalist’s complaint—a copy of which was obtained by al-Badil—he went to the area around the workers’ housing after he received information that some workers had inadvertently drunk untreated waste water that the company had put in the cisterns used by workers for drinking water and food preparation. When one of the workers found out, he informed the company, which emptied the cisterns and cleaned the inside of them. The journalist said that simply by visiting the site, he saw the poor conditions of the workers and took some photographs of the workers’ housing. He was then stopped by company security, who detained him for 30 minutes, during which time they beat and cursed him. They then transferred him to the police station, where Rehab security director, Gen. Ibrahim Ibrahim, accused him of robbing the workers and said they would all testify against him.

The journalist added that he saw the general make several telephone calls to a company official. Two hours later, he was released, but without his camera. The general said he was waiting for “an executive decision about the content of the photos of the workers and the company conditions,” after which they would send the camera back to him.
