Palestinian boy injured in the face by tear gas canister; IDF considers investigation by military police
The Btselem human rights group filed a complaint with the military prosecutor’s office asking them to order the military police to investigate an incident that took place about ten days ago in which a tear gas canister was thrown at a 13-year-old boy from Jalzon, near Ramallah, causing direct injuries.
The incident occurred when IDF forces raided the village and children began throwing stones. A soldier noticed a boy and two other children hiding near a gas station and fired the canister at them. The tear gas canister injured the boy’s face and nose. After a complaint was filed, the military police investigated. Btselem said yesterday that firing tear gas canisters directly at a target is common in the territories and that soldiers often violate IDF directives that ban such direct targeting.
IDF officials said that they will decide whether the event will be investigated in the next few days. Yesterday, the IDF and Shin announced that last week they had arrested a Fatah member, Fares Tashtush, from Nablus, suspected of supplying terrorists with explosives. Meanwhile some 20 demonstrators were lightly injured near the separation wall in Naalin during clashes with Border Guard police.
